WISCONSIN RAPIDS – What’s happening with businesses in the Wisconsin Rapids area?

Streetwise has your answers. These roundups offer an easy way to stay up to date with what’s happening on the Streetwise beat. If you know of a new business, a development or a place that’s closing, send me a note at cshuda@gannett.com . If you have questions about something opening, closing or changing in the area, send me those, too, and I'll do my best to find an answer.

This roundup features a new home for Hawaiian Tanning Studio, season openings for Lake Aire Supper Club and Gremler's Bakery and a new retail location to purchase fresh roasted Mission Coffee.

Hawaiian Tanning Studio is now open at 620 Airport Ave., behind Walgreens. The tanning studio moved March 5 from its location further south along Eighth Street South to Airport Avenue.

Hawaiian Tanning is open with a temporary occupancy permit while the business finishes work on the exterior and parking lot, said Kyle Kearns, the city’s director of community development. The business will need to finish work on the property before securing its permanent occupancy permit.

The relocation has been in the works since last year. Work on the building started last year but the city issued a stop order and revoked building permits in October due to failed inspections, although crews continued working on the project. Within the next two months, the city lifted the stop-work order and reinstated all permits to continue construction.

Lake Aire Supper Club is open for the season

Lake Aire first opened in June 1948 at the home of the former Midway Tavern, offering cocktails, wine, beer, steaks, chicken, lobster tail, shrimp, sandwiches and more.

Ata's Kusina Korner has been open for a few weeks inside Gremler's Bakery at 1811 W. Grand Ave., offering a selection of kitchen gadgets, tools and gifts.
