A well-known Lac Courte Oreilles traditional dancer and LCO Badgers drum group member died Friday April 26 as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle vs. car crash in the town of Winter on April 21.

Daniel J. Barber, 57, was operating a motorcycle westbound on Hwy. 70 approximately one mile east of Koeppler Road when Erin M. Jones, 39, of N4546 Hwy. G, Ojibwa, pulled out into Barber’s path from the north shoulder as she was attempting to turn around.

The motorcycle struck the front driver’s side of the car, causing severe damage to both vehicles. Barber sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital in Duluth.

Jones was not injured and was arrested. She has been charged by Sawyer County authorities with knowingly operating a motor vehicle while revoked-causing death and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones was placed on a $2,500 cash bond and had her initial court appearance April 30.

Funeral services for Daniel J. Barber were held Tuesday April 30 at Big Drum Ceremonial Center.
