A brand new cocktail bar, The Dutch Light , is getting ready to open later this year in Winston-Salem at 450 N. Patterson Ave.

The bar will move to the second floor of the Bailey South building in the Innovation Quarter , above Six Hundred°, according to Winston-Salem Journal . Co-owners Daniel Hamm and Brian Summer plan to open The Dutch Light as soon as August 2024 . The new 4,300-square-foot bar will feature an outside staircase leading to a patio overlooking Patterson Avenue and Bailey Park. The Dutch Light will feature cocktails, a wine program, and six beers on tap.

The name is a nod to a style of greenhouse and painting that will serve as the establishment’s theme. Customers can expect lots of greens, herbs, and flowers throughout the bar. In keeping with the theme, there will also be herbs in the cocktails and flowers for garnishes, creating a farm-to-bar concept. The space will also feature a container farm on the land Summer’s family owns nearby to help supply the bar and, eventually, other local restaurants. As for food, The Dutch Light will serve small bites, although the menu is still being developed.

“Our name comes from a style of greenhouse called Dutch Light, where the walls are angled to allow more sunlight in,” according to the company’s Instagram. “Our name also draws inspiration from a style of art in the Netherlands that traditionally features clouds and landscapes in a unique light style. Our branding also illustrates a specific style of greenhouse that bears the same name. Dutch Light greenhouses let more light in with their signature slanted sides.”
