WINSTON-SALEM — Novant Health has named Ashe County native Dr. Chan Badger senior vice president of Novant Health and president of Novant Health primary care services. In his new role with Novant Health, he will spearhead strategic development, operations and overall direction of primary care services. Badger is a board-certified family medicine physician and has cared for patients for 25 years.

“Dr. Badger has a tremendous passion for patient care, and his leadership will be instrumental in our continued work to elevate quality and the patient experience,” said John Gizdic, executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Novant Health. “In collaboration with our Community Health and Wellness Institute, he will champion community health initiatives and support value-based care delivery to create a healthier future for the communities we serve.”

Badger has held many clinical leadership roles during his 13-year tenure with Novant Health, including as medical director for Novant Health shared services (now AXIA Physician Solutions) and medical director for Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center. He founded Novant Health Northern Family Medicine in November 2010 in Greensboro, where he served as lead clinician.

“Primary care physicians and their teams are where remarkable care begins,” Badger said. “I look forward to building on the work Novant Health is doing to create the best possible experience for our patients every time they walk through our doors.”

Badger will continue his work with Novant Health Employer Solutions, building partnerships with employers across North Carolina to promote employee health, wellness and retention.

Badger received his medical degree from East Carolina University and completed his family medicine internship and fellowship at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. He resides in Guilford County with his wife, Jenny, and children, Annie and Henry.
