Quincy's President Plaza seeks expansion with new retail space
President Plaza on Quincy Avenue, home to Kam Man Food , is seeking to add 15,550 square feet of retail space for three more retail units. No tenants have been selected for the spaces yet, but the spaces will allow for different uses, Edward Fleming, an attorney on behalf of the applicant, told the planning board during its September meeting. The addition would extend north from Dollar Tree toward Quincy Avenue. Separately, the plaza is already undergoing a renovation. The facade of the entire plaza is being upgraded. The new retail space will use similar materials, so both the existing and new spaces in the plaza will have a cohesive design when all the work is complete, Nicholas Nitschke, a principal with Scott Griffin Architects, told the Quincy Planning Board in September , according to a video of the meeting. Parking changes proposed at President Plaza As part of the plans, applicant President Plaza Limited Partnership wants to create an improved loading area for plaza retailers behind the building. The rear loading area will be for the new retail spaces as well as the existing businesses, Fleming said. The shopping center would add another entrance east of the Eco Muffler

Running the numbers: True project cost of combined DPW/light plant remains uncertain
Good news first. On October 19, town staff finally met with the state on whether the light plant could come out of the shared DPW building. The state said yes. With no penalties, and no harm to future grants. That’s from the town manager’s own October 25 email to the light board. Nothing from the state is in writing yet.

According to Boston.com, City Council President Liz Breadon and Councilor Brian Worrell introduced an ordinance requiring Boston to publish a public "Worst Landlords in Boston" list twice a year for landlords with repeated housing violations, unpaid fines, and other compliance problems.

Brookline is losing small businesses: it’s time to do something about it
Growing up, I always looked forward to picking up my birthday cake from Party Favors in Coolidge Corner or a new book from The Children’s Book Shop in Brookline Village. One of my favorite kindergarten memories was going on a field trip to Connelly’s Hardware, where we got to go behind the scenes to see how they operate the store. In recent years, these three stores, as well as other beloved local establishments, went out of business due to competition from online retailers, rising costs and declining walk-in business. When these businesses closed, we lost a piece of the town’s vibrant character and charm. For this reason, it is necessary for us students to get involved and defend the businesses we know and love.
