Two years after starting a varsity girls soccer program, Sallie B. Howard School is going to be playing for a state association championship.

The Eagles crushed American Leadership Academy-Johnston County by a 12-3 score Tuesday, May 7, in the Carolina Athletic Association for Schools of Choice semifinals at Gillette Soccer Complex. It was the 12th straight win for Sallie B. Howard, which started the year with a loss to NCHSAA 3-A Cedar Ridge in The Brittany XVIII. However, unlike most of the other wins, the Eagles fell behind early Tuesday.

The Patriots (7-10-1) scored in the second minute for the early lead and then went up 2-1 in the 12th minute before the Eagles scored five straight goals to end the half with a 6-2 advantage.

Guillermina Reyes scored two of her three goals in the first half while Esmerelda Villanueva knocked in a pair of goals to go with two assists. Makayla Opie, Jimena Alvarez and Yamile Aguilar each scored twice for Sallie B. Howard while Arleny Figueroa added a goal.

The Eagles will host the CAASC championship game Thursday at Gillette against the winner of the Winston-Salem Christian-Quality Education Academy winner. Sallie B. Howard will be gunning for its third CAASC title this year after winning boys basketball and girls track and field.
