With nothing but North Carolina Christian School Association 2-A playoff games ahead of it, Wilson Christian assured itself of a winning season in varsity baseball with a 13-3 conquest of the visiting Raleigh Hawks home school team Thursday, May 2, at Turnage Athletic Complex.
The Chargers, who finished first in the NCCSA 2-A East District 3 with a 7-2 region mark, will take an 11-9 overall record into their first playoff game Tuesday, May 7, against an opponent to be determined.
Wilson Christian, which avenged an 8-2 loss to the Hawks on April 19, sent 10 runners across home plate in the bottom of the first inning Thursday. The Chargers totaled 12 hits and senior Parker Bunn pitched a five-inning complete game.
Eighth grader Mack Wiggins led the offensive assault with a 3-for-4 showing that included an RBI while classmate Ethan Kriger was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Another classmate, Bennett Bailey, was 2 for 4 with two RBIs while sophomore Austin Coughlin and Bunn also drove in two runs each. Freshman Charlie Scott was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Gunner Williams and D.J. Scott also had an RBI each for the Chargers.
