Since April began, the Fike High varsity softball team has just three wins but the Golden Demons have scored more than 20 runs in each of those wins, including a 20-3 nonconference romp in five innings Wednesday, May 1, at Greene Central.
The 3-A Quad County Conference Demons scored five runs in the top of the first inning and 10 more in the second as they cruised to their sixth win against 15 losses while the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference Rams are still seeking their first win after 21 losses.
Junior Aleah Thompson and sophomore Leyla Lopez sparked the Fike offense with two hits and an RBI each. Freshman Cayley Jones was 1 for 3 with three RBIs while junior Cheyanne Mercer, senior Kassidy Parrish, senior Emma Spencer and freshman Addison Barnes each knocked in two runs.
Jones started in the pitching circle, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out six.
Anna Kearney took the loss in the circle for the Rams while getting one of their three singles, along with Makinsey Moore and Anna Katherine Medlin.
