BARTON ROUNDUP: Lee leads BC at CC track and field championships

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Freshman Jaidan Lee had the best day for Barton College at the Conference Carolinas outdoor track and field championships Friday and Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
The Charlotte resident won the men’s 200-meter dash, setting a program record of 20.96 seconds and earning an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Lee was also part of Barton’s victorious 4×100 relay team freshman Jordan Bobbitt, junior Justin Copper and senior Jacquez Durham who finished in 41.52.
Sophomore Keiarra Tutt also had a pair of record-breaking performances for the Barton women as she posted PR times in runner-up finishes in the 100 (11.93) and 200 (24.19). Tutt’s 200 time is also a Div. II provisional mark.
Sophomore Aniya Heckstall was third in the 200, joining Lee, Tutt and the men’s 4×100 team on the All-Conference Carolinas roster.
Mount Olive swept the team titles while the Barton women were eighth out of 12 teams and the men finished ninth.

Barton season ends in tourney
DUNCAN PARK, S.C. — After winning twice Friday to stay alive in the Conference Carolinas tournament, Barton was eliminated Saturday by Emmanuel, 8-1, in the losers bracket semifinals at Tyger River Park.
The No. 9-seeded Bulldogs ended up 27-24 as the No. 5 Lions (34-24) stopped North Greenville on Saturday before falling to top-seeded Francis Marion in Sunday’s championship game.
Junior second baseman Mary Lindsey Harris had two hits and an RBI for Barton while senior Miranda Holmes struck out seven batters in the loss to take the Div. II lead with 304 strikeouts.
MEN’S GOLF
Bulldogs get the call
Barton’s Conference Carolinas-champion men’s golf team learned Sunday that it will be headed to Gainesville, Georgia, at the end of next week for the NCAA Div. II South/Southeast Regional Championship at Chattahoochee Golf Club, starting Thursday, May 9. University of North Georgia will be the host.
Barton, which is making its third consecutive regional appearance, won three tournaments since last fall, including The Trojan on April 8-9 in Goldsboro.
The top five teams and two golfers not on one of those teams will advance from the South/Southeast Regional to the national championship tournament May 21-24 at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Florida.
