The intersection of Oleander Drive and College Road is one of the busiest in Wilmington.

In 1990, developers' plans for a shopping center in the area hoped to capitalize on the traffic.

According to a story in the May 5, 1990, Wilmington Morning Star, a retail center would fill the "last corner on Oleander and South College Road." Called Oleander Pointe, the 21,000-square-foot shopping strip would be adjacent to Toys "R" Us with plans to open by October.

It was designed to have 12 stores and one tenant had already signed on: Visionworks, an eye care office. Visionworks remains there today. Toys "R" Us closed all of its stores by 2021 and has been replaced by Kimbrell's Furniture.

Current stores at the complex include The Butcher's Market of Wilmington, SalonCentric, Reese Family Chiropractic and Sun Tan City.

The other three corners of the intersection also have businesses: Trader Joe's, Walgreens and CVS.
