New initiative aims to help LGBTQ business owners network
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A new initiative is aimed at helping LGBTQ business owners and entrepreneurs succeed. The Vermont Pride and Prosperity Network is a collaboration between several organizations including the Pride Center of Vermont, the Small Business Administration, and the Vermont Treasurer’s Office. The goal is to provide education, connection, and celebration. It is being supported by the M&T Charitable Foundation with a funding commitment of $225,000 over three years.
Wilderness expert to host women’s outdoor survival classes
MONKTON, Vt. (WCAX) - As warmer weather ramps up and more people explore the Green Mountain State, one group is trying to empower women to take their safety into their own hands. The Vermont Outdoor Guide Association is hosting classes to teach adventurers survival skills for two weeks in Monkton.
Burlington councilors review a number of city projects during their latest meeting
The Burlington, Vermont City Council had no resolutions on its agenda this week. Councilors instead held work sessions and heard presentations on several city projects. The city council’s agenda included a presentation on reconnecting Bank and Cherry Streetsin the downtown. Between 2016 and 2018 officials in Burlington created plans to reconnect the two streets that had been divided by construction of a shopping mall during a 1960’s and 1970’s urban renewal project. The opportunity arose as the CityPlace project moved forward and federal funding was obtained to advance a Great Streets project. Ward 7 Democrat Evan Litwin was curious how the street redesign addresses downtown safety issues.
1 person injured in fire at Winooski encampment
WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) - One person is recovering after a Winooski homeless encampment went up in flames Monday morning. It happened just before 9 a.m. under Burlington’s “Blue Bridge” on the Winooski side of the river. Burlington fire crews say they were headed to a training when they spotted a large column of smoke coming from the area of the Winooski River Railroad Bridge.

Preparations underway for Burlington July 3rd celebration
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The City of Burlington says they are prepping for July 3rd celebrations. Burlington traditionally celebrates the 4th of July the day before with a big fireworks show. The city says you can expect music and vendors to fill the waterfront again this year, but there will be an extra focus on traffic this year. That’s because of an exciting opportunity that same day, Vermont Green FC will have a game which will take some of the parking spots.
iSun, parent company of Suncommon, files for bankruptcy
Williston, VT- iSun, a major Vermont-based solar panel company, has filed for bankruptcy due to decreasing revenue. In a court filing made on June 3, iSun CEO Jeff Peck wrote that the company didn’t turn a profit for the past two years and saw a net loss of about $19 million in 2023 and $53 million in 2022, with a projected loss of $10 million this year. Peck attributed the decline in sales to rising interest rates driving down consumer interest, and making it more difficult to finance solar panel purchases.
