A 30-year-old man suspected of trying to kill a Metro bus operator in the unincorporated Willowbrook area was arrested Wednesday.

Deputies located and arrested Darnell Marshon Bray shortly after noon Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Bray was later booked at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station on suspicion of attempted murder of a Metro bus operator and had a bail amount set at $2 million. He had a court date scheduled for Friday at Compton Courthouse for arraignment.

The victim was driving his bus route about 8:30 p.m. April 13 "when the suspect started yelling at him," a sheriff's department statement said.

"The victim stopped the bus at the intersection of 119th Street and Wilmington Avenue," the statement continued. "The suspect, without provocation, punched the victim in the face, then proceeded to stab the victim. The suspect exited the bus and fled northbound on Wilmington Avenue and out of view."

Anyone with information regarding the attempted murder was urged to call the Sheriff's Transit Services Bureau at 323-562-5000. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
