WILLIAMSON, WV (WOWK) — A mother and grandmother were arrested after children and dogs were in a home living among human and animal waste, and one of the children could not move the bottom half of their body due to their illness, according to a criminal complaint.

The criminal complaint said the mother, 36-year-old Christi Hatfield, and the grandmother, 63-year-old Sharon Simpson, lived at an apartment building in Williamson.

Law enforcement went to the house on Tuesday where they were met by Hatfield and Simpson saying they could not go into the home, according to the complaint. Hatfield told law enforcement there were no children in the home, the complaint said.

Inside the home, they found the children as well as four dogs that had defecated on the floor and the bed of the emaciated child who could not move.
