I’ve been an avid nature photographer for close to 40 years. One of the great nature events in New Jersey is the annual shore bird migration at Cape May. It is considered the largest gathering of shore birds in the world. After the first full moon in May, thousands of horseshoe crabs come ashore in Cape May to lay their eggs. Meanwhile, thousands upon thousands of shore birds arrive in the area, famished from their long flight from wintering grounds in Central and South America. They feed on the eggs to store up energy in preparation for their long flight to breeding grounds in the Arctic. Also descending upon Cape May are countless birding enthusiasts from around the world to witness this event.
