‘The Hub’ is closer to reality, Wichita seeks builders

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita is getting moving on a multimodal center near Riverfront Stadium. The center, called The Hub, will be Wichita’s new bus transit center. The plan is to also provide parking for hundreds of vehicles, bicycles and scooters.
The City of Wichita is now accepting bids for the project’s construction phase. The goal is to finish the building by Dec. 31, 2025.
The project has been in the works since at least 2019.
November 2019 — Wichita gets a Federal Transit Authority grant to improve transportation service with a multimodal facility.
December 2020 — The City Council approves $19.2 million for design, infrastructure and utility work, construction, and project management.
May 2021 — TranSystems gets the contract to design the center.
November 2022 — The City Council views the initial design concept for the facility.
On Friday, the City of Wichita said has started taking bids. Companies have until 10 a.m. on Friday, June 7, to submit a bid. Go to the City’s Vendor Self-Service website and enter 240124 in the number box to get the details.
There will be a pre-bid conference for interested vendors at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 13, in the first-floor boardroom at City Hall, 455 N. Main.
