HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A Wichita man pleaded to several charges in connection to a 2021 attempted murder and kidnapping .

Kamden Campos pleaded both guilty and no contest to several charges. The charges he pleaded guilty to are:

    • Aggravated kidnapping
    • knowingly caused great bodily harm
    • Two counts of criminal threat

Campos pleaded no contest to five counts of attempted first-degree murder. The Reno County District Attorney said he attempted murder by stabbing, trying to drown, trying to light on fire, and shooting at the victim and at her vehicle, which had her 22-month-old child in the car.

The crime was committed on July 19, 2021, at Cheney Lake. Campos abducted his girlfriend and her two children and took them to Cheney Lake.

He tried to kill his girlfriend, who bolted when he was briefly distracted. She jumped into the car and sped off with her two children, both under two years old.

Deputies say Campos fired shots at the car, and one bullet hit her daughter in the back seat. The child later underwent surgery for her injuries, and deputies arrested Campos after a search.

Campos’ sentencing is scheduled for June 7 at 9:30 a.m.
