WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The past year has been bittersweet for the WFISD as the district closes the only three public high schools the city has ever known and prepares to open its two new high schools in the fall.

This morning, staff and alumni of S.H. Rider High watched as the final graduating class walked the stage, culminating in the end of an era for Wichita Falls.

Mahdi Kabir was the valedictorian, with a 5.0 GPA, and Chaitanya Reddy was the salutatorian, also with a 5.0 GPA.

Graduation took place this morning at Memorial Stadium, where the first-ever graduating class was recognized.

After opening in 1961 and creating the first graduating class of 1963, the school was known to many in Texas for its long-standing traditions and rivalry with Wichita Falls High School.

We want to say congratulations to this last class of Rider Raiders. Ride on honorable ones!
