Confetti filled the air as Wichita Falls High School held its closing ceremony on a warm Wednesday afternoon. After over a century, the school will be closing its doors.

The front lawn of the school was full of alumni, students, families and other community members.

"It's kind of surreal," Wendy Presson, special projects coordinator for Old High, said. "But I'm so excited about the future, and sometimes we shouldn't get locked into the past and sometimes it's that time to move on."

Presson added, "So I think May 24 I'm going to shed some tears, but I think then it's time for a change."

Attendees sang along to the school alma mater performed by the high school band, and the cheerleaders gave one last routine.

The school flag was then folded up by Wichita Falls High School Principal Laurie Kinne and Dr. Donny Lee, Wichita Falls ISD superintendent — to represent the end of the school.

"Right now the most important thing is making sure our kids transition to their new schools . . . is guide them the best way we can," Presson said.

It was an emotional event as tears were shed from teachers, staff, and families, as final memories were made.
