WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Many local high school seniors and their parents have a little extra money in their pockets to help with their upcoming first year in college.

That’s thanks to more than 90 scholarships awarded Tuesday evening, May 14, at Sikes Lake Center during the fourth annual WFISD Foundation Scholarship Reception.

Among those students was Anyece Robinson who received the Shatanya Clark Larger than Life Scholarship.

That scholarship was started after our friend and colleague, Shatanya Clarke, passed away during her battle with cancer in 2022.

Many of the scholarships are named in memory of Texomans who made huge impacts on others during their lives.

And, the WFISD Foundation takes great pride in being stewards of those scholarships so those individuals can go on making huge impacts in the lives of our young people for generations to come

“We are very thankful that they have interested in us to be able to make their wishes and what they have requested come to fruition tonight,” WFISD Foundation Executive Director January Cadotte said. “It’s a great opportunity for these kids to be able to help pay for their college, and we’re just blessed to be able to make it happen.”

On Tuesday, over $91,000 was awarded to 46 students in the district.
