WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — At the age of 6, Emmanuel Moreno began training at Rival Boxing Gym. Now fighting professionally out of Wichita Falls, the 19-year-old not only wants to put the town on the map but also show who he is with his skills.

“It’s a dream come true,” Moreno said.

Boxing on a pay-per-view event with six bouts under his belt, Moreno is set to lace up against Luis Alberto Lopez in Houston in his TV debut on DAZN in an undercard fight on Friday, May 3.

“I always want to be on TV, fighting on TV and, you know, showcasing my talent to all the other people out to the youth, [to] anybody that just enjoys watching boxing,” Moreno said.

Nicknamed “El Trompo,” or “Spinning Top,” in English, the orthodox fighter has won multiple championships as an amateur fighter.

Now, as a pro, he has a chance to showcase his skills and talent on why he’s the next boxer to keep tabs on.

“My team, we keep improving each fight that we do,” Moreno said. “So I feel great, and I feel like I’m ready for whatever comes my way.”

And, what better day to start than on the Cinco de Mayo weekend, a holiday famous for Mexican boxers to fight on or around?

“I’m excited to put on a show for all my Mexican people, and I’m sure they’re excited as well,” Moreno said.

Moreno said if eyes aren’t on him now, heads will turn to know who Emmanuel “El Trompo” Moreno is.

“I’m definitely going to show out for everybody because, you know, I just feel like it’s my time to show the world what I’m really about and my talent and my skills. So I’m ready,” Moreno said. “And I’m grateful for the opportunity that.”

Moreno wants people to know where he comes from as he tries to put Wichita Falls back on the boxing map.

Moreno leaves Wednesday, May 1 for Houston with the bout on Friday, May 3 at the Red Owl Boxing Arena, starting at 8 p.m.

If you can’t make it to Houston, Buffalo Wild Wings in Wichita Falls on Call Field will be live-streaming the fight; or you can watch on DAZN.
