    Whitewater boys win 7 track events at RVC Championships, take 2nd; Jefferson girls 6th

    WHITEWATER — From the sprints through the distance races, Whitewater’s boys track and field team put on a dominating display.

    With victories in seven track events, the Whippets finished second to Monroe, 146 to 128.5, at the Rock Valley Conference Championships on Friday at Whitewater High School.

    Senior Ethan Dugan was a double winner in the 200 meter dash (22.36 seconds) and the 400 (50.22), as was junior Jack Hefty in the 800 (2:01.28) and the 1,600 (4:28.91).

    Senior Traysen Thomason won the 100 meter dash, breaking 11 seconds for the first time in his career with a 10.99. Dugan put down a personal best in the 200 and a season best in the 400. Hefty’s winning 800 time was also a PR.

    The Whippets also claimed two relay event titles.

    The 800 relay team of Thomason, senior Nate Black, junior Keenan Sheffield and senior Quincy Boudreau won in 1:32.97.

    The 1,600 relay team of Boudreau, Hefty, sophomore Curtis Rossmiller and Dugan won in 3:25.75.

    Thomason added a third place finish in the 200 (23.15). Freshman Ty Bucholtz was third in the 110 high hurdles (17.10).

    Junior Xavier Zei finished fourth in the 3,200 in a PR time of 10:36.91. Sophomore Akamion McHenry was fourth in the 400 in a PR time of 53.53. Senior Jaylyn Ewing cleared 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump and finished fourth.

    Whitewater’s girls scored 37.5 points and finished 11th as a team.

    The 400 relay team of juniors Calli Grosinske, A’lani Ross and Ava Alvarado and sophomore Sydney Schilt placed third in the 400 relay in 51.65. Schilt also took third in the 200 in 27.21.

    Senior Myialynn Cobbs cleared 8-0 and took fourth in the pole vault.

    Jefferson’s boys scored 43 points and placed eighth.

    Junior Colton Krause entered the 100 finals as the second seed behind Thomason, but false started. He bounced back with a second place finish in the 200 in a PR time of 22.98.

    Junior Derek Morrison added a third place finish in the 800 in a personal best 2:03.60.

    The 3,200 relay team of junior Patrick Sande, senior Lucas Frank, senior Jonathon Ellifson and Morrison took second in 8:38.27. The 400 relay team of sophomore Connor Witucki, freshman Wyatt Strupp, Frank and Krause finished fourth in 45.32.

    Jefferson’s girls scored 51.5 points and finished sixth.

    Sophomore Zofia Raduege was second in the pole vault, clearing a personal best 9-0. Senior Alexis Dobson placed third in the shot put with a PR throw of 35-8 1/2.

    The 3,200 relay team of junior Mackenzie Denton, sophomore Addy Nelson, junior Lexi Weinbrenner and sophomore Madeline Dehnert finished a close third in 10:50.83.

    Freshman Ella Fetherston took fourth in the 400 in a PR time of 1:02.29.

    “We had a lot to be proud of tonight at our conference meet,” Jefferson track and field coach Doug Siegert said. “So many athletes are running their best races at this point in the season. We had a lot of personal bests ranging from our distance to sprinters and in field events. Our athletes are so competitive, yet remain hungry to improve.”

    Team scores — boys: Monroe 146, Whitewater 128.5, Evansville 80, Edgerton 76, Brodhead/Juda 69.5, Clinton 64, Big Foot 47, Jefferson 43, Delavan-Darien 22, East Troy 19 Turner 3.

    Team scores — girls: Monroe 129, Brodhead/Juda 125, East Troy 59.5, Turner 58, Delavan-Darien 54.5, Jefferson 51.5, Evansville 50.5, Edgerton 49, Clinton 45, Big Foot 42.5, Whitewater 37.5.
