Team Destiny's Child takes second at statewide Whipping Up Wellness Student Chef Cook Off

On May 16, Destiny’s Children team members Sofa A, Taylor M, Buckley P and Dallas Z competed in the Whipping Up Wellness Student Chef Cook Off.

Their qualification for participation in the Cook Off began with a project as part of the Exploratory class at White Lake School. The class was divided into three teams of four members each. The teams had to research and develop a recipe that followed guidelines for the Whipping Up Wellness Student Chef Competition. They then prepared that recipe and then completed the application that included the recipe ingredients, directions, and nutritional information.

The three teams submitted their applications, and on April 4 Team Destiny’s Children was been selected to participate in the 2024 Whipping Up Wellness, Wisconsin Student Chef Competition Cook-off with their Butter Chicken with Jasmine Rice.

The road to the Cook Off included preparing the dish for the White Lake School Staff, then the entire student body of 170 students 3K-12, and surveying them on their opinion of the dish. They practiced one more time in preparing the dish for competition and served it to several members of the White Lake School Board.

It was then off to the Cook Off. The team left for Madison at 5:30 a.m. Thursday. The Cook Off took place at Madison Area Technical College. By 11:15 they had prepared their dish and presented it to the five judges.

Destiny’s Children received second place. This has been an awesome experience for a small rural school and our team of four students!
