WHEELING, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – The 2024 West Virginia Primary Elections are in the history books with all eyes now turning to the general election this November.

Voters elected current Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott as the Democratic nomination for Senate with 45% of the vote.

He says he was very humbled to see the amount of support from the voters.

“It’s a humbling feeling. You put so much work into a campaign and then you sit back and it’s out of your control. It’s in the hands of the voters, as it should be in our country. And it’s very inspiring to see that all happen.”

Elliott will now face off against current West Virginia Governor Jim Justice for a seat in the senate.

My biggest challenge is going to be name recognition starting off. I mean, everybody knows the governor. I got to introduce myself to the rest of the voters across the state. It’s going to be an uphill battle. I understand that. But I like the contrast and the governor is going to have to be accountable for some of the things he’s done in office.”
