WHATELY, Mass. (WWLP) – The Town of Whately will be hosting their annual Memorial Day Celebration and Parade on Sunday.

Police investigating after dead body was found in Connecticut

The celebration will begin with a church service at the Whately Congregational Church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the parade will form and will march to the nearby cemetery, where veterans will lay wreaths.

Participants will then return to the town’s war memorial where a service will then be held. The Whately Grange will present the National Grange Patriots Award to Walter Harubin, their oldest veteran who is 103 years old and fought in WWII.

The award will be presented by Massachusetts State Grange Veterans Committee Member, James Martin, and Ruth Leahey, a Massachusetts State Grange Home and Community Committee Member. The speaker of the service is Ruth Leahey, who will present her “Thank You” speech, remembering those who served, both in military or civilian activities, and waited for years to be recognized. Soloist Dusti Dufrensne will also render a medley of military songs.

Tom’s Hot Dog Stand will be at the events and the Whately Historical Society will have a display and the museum will be opened. It will be held rain or shine, but in case of rain, the event will be held in Town Hall.
