Pa. school bus drivers, districts struggle with high diesel prices, fear future of small companies

Near record-high diesel prices have some school bus drivers questioning how long the wheels will still go 'round. Diesel costs almost $3 more per gallon than one year ago. That means it costs $36 more for fuel to drive 100 miles than it did last year. Buses travel about seven miles on one gallon of diesel. Depending on the contract with a school district, the driver or company may be responsible for paying the increase.

Chambersburg Borough Announces Limekiln Dr. Bridge Will Be Open On 10/23/2026

The Borough is pleased to announce that on Friday, October 23, 2026, the Limekiln Drive bridge will be reopened to traffic, barring any weather delays. Through the work of Clear View Excavation Inc., which started on August 18, 2026, a new 24-foot-span precast box culvert has been installed. The project also included water line relocation, installation of storm sewer system inlets and drainage pipes and the installation of a new electrical conduit over the stream. Moreover, the project resolved hydraulic problems caused by the narrow opening of the old bridge. Additional “punchlist items” will be completed, such as guiderail installation and pavement line painting, but those items will not interfere with access to the bridge.
