Rockingham special meeting will determine annual Town Meeting day
ROCKINGHAM, Vt. – At the Rockingham Selectboard meeting held on Tuesday, May 7, Chair Rick Cowan called on resident Jamey Berrick, attending the meeting over Zoom, who addressed the board regarding postings on the town’s website. He questioned if the town was following the state statute on the open meeting law, and satisfying the requirements for notifying residents ahead of public meetings.
Woodstock Avenue to change traffic configuration
State repaving has begun, upon completion four travel lanes will be reduced to two lanes with a center turning lane. At the Board of Aldermen meeting on Monday, May 6, Mayor Michael Doenges addressed the so-called “road diet” on Woodstock Avenue that will change the road from four travel lanes to two lanes with a center turning lane. He told the board he was committed to the new configuration for about a year before the city discusses changing the configuration back, which would be at the city’s expense.

Local donors raise $20K to fund new green community space in Springfield, Vermont
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — People in Springfield, Vermont will soon be able to enjoy an improved public green space on Main Street thanks to the efforts of a crowdfunding campaign. Ludlow-Mount Holly School Committee approves revised budget
LUDLOW, Vt. – The Ludlow Mount Holly School Committee met on Monday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 8, and unanimously approved a revised budget for a new vote on Tuesday, June 4. The reductions in the approved budget combined with actions of the state legislature would reduce the tax increase to an estimated 1.74% in Ludlow, and 4.38% in Mount Holly, compared with 6.57% and 9.32% respectively in the original budget.

Logging company fined for wetland and water quality impacts in Bridgewater, Thetford
The Agency of Natural Resources Dept. of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) announced May 8 that Thomson Timber Harvesting and Trucking LLC (Thompson Timber), a company that performs logging activities in Vermont, was fined $32,550 for violating the Vermont Wetland Rules and failing to follow acceptable management practices (AMPs) for maintaining water quality on logging jobs in Vermont.
