Blockbuster Filmmaker Teaches Movie Making at Compton HS and Dominguez
Guest lecturers are a great way to inject variety into a class, bringing their outside knowledge and real-world experience to share in to students in a classroom. BHUSD Holds Promotion and Graduation Ceremonies
The Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) held Promotion and Graduation ceremonies this week, beginning on May 29 (Horace Mann Elementary School and Hawthorne Elementary School); May 30 (Beverly Vista Middle School) and May 31 (Beverly Hills High School). Meet John Muir Valedictorian Lauren Gray
Lauren Gray is graduating with a 4.6 GPA. This year, Lauren Gray was enrolled at Muir High School and at Pasadena City College. She majored in Gender Ethnic Studies, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences and Social Justice studies, and earned four Associate of Arts degrees in addition to her high school diploma. She was Senior Class President, Captain of the cheer team, Associated Student Body Alumni Commissioner, and a Pasadena City College Dual Enrollment Student Ambassador. In addition, her volunteer work includes assisting in teaching youth Mandarin Chinese at her former elementary school, being a Pasadena City Youth Ambassador at community events, and advocating for equity in all Pasadena schools as a member of the PUSD’s Student Think Tank. Lauren has also organized voter registration drives at her school by partnering with the League of Women’s Voters. After graduating from college, Lauren would like to work in the political law and legal field, combatting inequities that impact marginalized communities.
AUA Supporters ‘Ignite Change’ at LA Fundraiser
LOS ANGELES — On Saturday, May 18, at the home of American University of Armenia (AUA) ChangeMakers Vahe and Ruzan Kuzoyan, the community of AUA supporters gathered to ignite change for a brighter future in Armenia. The gala, titled “A Night to Ignite Change: Honoring the Akian Family,” recognized the Akian family for their decades of commitment to AUA and raised $800,000 in support of the University’s efforts to advance higher education in Armenia.
