Endangered missing: Westland Police stress urgency, asking for help in search for 75-year-old James Sanford

WESTLAND (WWJ) -- Westland Police are asking for help as concern grows in the case of an endangered missing man, who disappeared several weeks ago.

James Sanford, 75, left his home in the 37000 block of Westwood Circle, in the area of Joy and Newburgh in Westland, at around 2 p.m. on Monday, April 8, according to investigators.

Police said they are in ongoing communication with area hospitals, have been distributing missing person’s posters around the community, and are talking to police in other jurisdictions where Sanford had before moving to Westland.

Police said multiple ground searches by officers as well as aerial searches by the Michigan State Police Aerial Unit, using thermal imaging devices, turned up no sign of the missing man.

In an update Friday, the police said they're stressing the urgency of this case, as Sanford has now been missing for an extended period of time — and he needs medication that he didn't take with him.

Sandford is described as a Black male, 5’9” tall and 220 lbs., with gray facial hair on his chin. He was last seen wearing blue sweat pants, a black zip up hooded sweatshirt, black gym shoes, and a blue “USA Baseball” cap.
