    Duct-taped block of heroin found inside stolen vehicle in West Springfield

    WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two Springfield men were arrested after 500 bags of heroin were found in West Springfield after officers stopped a stolen vehicle.

    According to the West Springfield Police Department, at around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday officers received the report of a stolen motor vehicle traveling westbound on Memorial Avenue. The vehicle was found unoccupied in the Price Rite parking lot.

    Officers observed two individuals get into the stolen vehicle using a key before a felony car stop was conducted. The driver was identified as 28-year-old Jamie Rodriguez-Lopez who allegedly had individual bags of heroin with a blue stamp of “HEATS” in his wallet.

    During a brief struggle with the passenger, 34-year-old Jorge Gomez-Rodriguez , police seized the following inside a shoulder bag he was carrying:

    • A silver duct taped block that contained 4-pacs (400 bags) and 4 half-pacs (200 bags) of heroin with a blue stamp of “HEATS”
    • 20 bags of heroin with a blue stamp of “HBO”
    • 6 grams of cocaine
    • 2 oxycodone pills
    • 1 Percocet pill
    • A knife
    • $870

    Gomez-Rodriguez is charged with the following:

    • Possession to Distribute a Class A Drug (Heroin)
    • Possession of a Class B Drug (3 counts: Cocaine, Percocet, Oxycodone)
