Update: Officials weigh in on Wal-Mart automation investment
CULLMAN, Ala. – As The Tribune previously reported, the Cullman City Council on Monday night approved a $20 million tax abatement for Wal-Mart, which is planning a $350 million capital investment in the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in south Cullman. According to Cullman Economic Development Agency Director Dale Greer, Wal-Mart plans to automate its distribution center over the next several years. Man convicted of murder in Cullman County found dead in state prison cell over the weekend
An inmate serving time at William Donaldson Correctional Facility for a murder conviction died over the weekend. William Lynn Smith, 48, was found unresponsive Saturday inside his private cell, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The 9:43 a.m. discovery was made by correctional staff performing a safety check.
Obituary: Athel Levon Rodgers
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date for Athel Levon Rodgers, 74, of Vinemont. Cullman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rodgers family. Levon passed away June 3, 2023 at his residence. He was born January 16, 1949 to Athel E.V. & Mary Magdalene Skinner Rodgers. He was a loving husband, great dad and grandfather. Walmart plans $350 million in high-tech upgrades at Alabama distribution hub

CCBOE names Meigs special education coordinator
CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Board of Education (CCBOE) at its May 2023 meeting approved the hire of Katie Meigs as the system’s special education coordinator. Meigs currently serves as IEP coordinator and has several years of special education experience. “I am so appreciative of this opportunity that Dr. Barnette and the school board have given me to lead the special education program for Cullman County Schools,” said Meigs. “I truly love working with our students with special needs. We have a dedicated group of teachers that work diligently year after year to provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in life. School-aged kids can get free weekly meals every Tuesday in June
CULLMAN, Ala. – Each Tuesday during the month of June, a week’s worth of free meals will be provided for school-aged children at the Cullman County Child Development Center. Residents can pick up five frozen breakfasts, five frozen lunches, vegetables, fruit, one gallon of milk and a half-gallon of orange juice. Children do not have to be students of the Child Development Center; any school-aged child is welcome to participate.
