    Lafayette Jeff track, Seeger baseball athletes win J&C Athletes of the Week

    LAFAYETTE — The votes have been tallied and this round of J&C Athletes of the Week featured one of the closest races this season.

    Seeger baseball player Noah Stephen was voted the J&C male athlete of the week after securing 7,757 votes and 45.5% of ballots. West Lafayette track athlete David Curl came in second with 6,545 votes and 38.7% of ballots while Harrison runner Jaden Goins and Twin Lakes baseball player CJ Brummett rounded out the top four.

    Lafayette Jeff runner Amani Byrd won J&C Female Athlete of the Week with 10,481 votes and 60% of ballots. Rossville pitcher Avery Layton came second with 5,511 votes and 32.6% of ballots while West Lafayette thrower Taylor Woods and Harrison catcher Ava Mobley rounded out the top four.

    Seeger senior Noah Stephen

    Stephen has been Seeger's leading catalyst at the plate during the Patriots' 14-0 start. Stephen went 4-of-9 from the plate with eight RBIs and led Seeger to wins against Covington 7-1 and 13-6 in a doubleheader last Tuesday, 15-1 against Southmont last Thursday and 7-4 against Parke Heritage on Saturday. Stephen is batting .500 with five doubles, a triple and 25 RBIs.

    Lafayette Jeff junior Amani Byrd

    Byrd had the breakout performance of the NCC Track and Field Championships in Marion last Friday. She sped through the 100 meters and won the event in 12.74 seconds.
