LAFAYETTE — Four baseball, track and field, golf and softball stars from Delphi, West Lafayette and Faith Christian are jockeying for the Journal and Courier Athletes of the Week award.
Their nominations were recommended by coaches and fans along with J&C sports reporters covering the various high school athletic events in the Lafayette area.
Achievements in each of these sports occurred between April 22 and April 28. Here are this week's nominees.
Sam Peter
Sport: Golf
School: Faith Christian
Class: Senior
Team contributions : Peter had little trouble finding the green on a windy afternoon at the DeKalb Invite in Auburn. Peter shot a 75 to lead Faith Christian to his second straight individual title along with helping the Eagles secure the team title.

Chase Almager
Sport: Baseball
School: Delphi
Class: Senior
Team contributions: Line drives and putting together competitive at-bats has been the norm for Almager who is in the middle of a breakout year for the Oracles. Almager is batting .500 this season and went 3-for-8 and five RBI combined in a 13-9 win over North Newton last Monday, 9-2 win over Eastern last Friday and a 15-14 loss to Rossville last Thursday. Almager was walked three times in last week's loss.
Miah Sinks
Sport: Track and Field
School: Delphi
Class: Senior
Team contributions : Sinks took first in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at the North White, Delphi and Attica meet last Friday. Sinks ran the 100 meters in 12.23 seconds and 200 meters in 26.50 seconds, each time outpacing the second place finishers by more than two seconds.
Ellie Wilcoxson
Sport: Softball
School: West Lafayette
Class: Junior
Team contributions : Wilcoxson's bat has come up big for West Lafayette in critical situations throughout the season. Last Monday was massive as she belted a base-clearing triple in the fourth inning against Lafayette Jeff. Wilcoxson's hit proved to be the factor in outlasting Lafayette Jeff 4-1 last Monday on the road. She followed her performance and went 1-for-3 with an RBI in a 14-3 win over Central Catholic. West Lafayette is 11-2 with Wilcoxson batting .290 with two triples and 11 RBI this season.
