WL Board of Works approves Arbor Day proclamation, fire department hires

West Lafayette Mayor Erin Easter announced that April 26 will be observed by the city as Arbor day during West Lafayette Board of Public Works and Safety on Tuesday morning.
The approved proclamation encourages city residents to participate in local Arbor Day programs and plant trees on their own properties.
A certificate of substantial completion was approved for the development of the Dehart combined sewage overflow that finished Jan 2. This meant the project was done correctly.
Fire department
Firefighter candidates Nicholas Finta, Carson Disinger and Benjamin Flynn will be hired under the West Lafayette Fire Department, effective April 29.
All new hires will complete a one-year probationary period at a bi-weekly pay of $2,624.46.
Horraine Lewis and Gage Heggs will be promoted on April 27 from entry level firefighter to firefighter first class after they successfully completed the probationary period. Both will be upgraded to a bi-weekly pay of $2,769.10.
New development project manager hire
Chris Gmyrek will be hired as the city development project manager effective April 27 at a bi-weekly pay rate of $2,460.12.
New recycling bin lids
A request by the West Lafayette Streets Department to replace 102 recycling bin lids was approved. The lids will be purchased for 48-gallon toters out of warranty at a cost of $2,266.95. Used toters will be converted to yard-waste bins and sold for $25 to the public.
Tapawingo Drive closure
A request by the West Lafayette Engineering Department was approved to close Tapawingo Drive northbound from the State Street roundabout. A concrete foundation will be placed for a transmission pole, closing the street from April 23 until April 25.
