The only Save A Lot grocery store in West Allis is closing its doors.

A sign on the door at the Save A Lot at 7540 W. Oklahoma Ave. says that the store will close on May 20. The store is also having a 30% sale for most of their items, according to signage on the door.

Save A Lot customer Betsey Duxbury has been shopping at the store for three years. She told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel she doesn't like that the store is closing and said she would have to do her grocery shopping at Aldi or Metro Market. She said Save A Lot, however, is the most affordable store.

Another customer, Mary Assad, said she wasn't surprised that the store was closing on such short notice.

"We felt that they were going to close because sometimes they don't have food on the shelf," Assad said. "They're not stocked up. So I don't know. I wish they're not closing. It's a good store."

Assad said she will now have to do her grocery shopping at Aldi or Pick 'n Save.

The owners of the store were not available for comment and a store employee confirmed that the store's phone number has been disconnected because the store is closing.

The closest Save A Lot for West Allis customers is located at 2322 W. Oak St. in Milwaukee, which is 7.7 miles away and a 16-minute drive, according to Google maps.
