Weslaco residents share thoughts on Stage 2 Drought

WESLACO, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The City of Weslaco is continuing to limit water use as part of its Stage 2 conservation efforts.

They have been asking everyone to reduce consumption since the beginning of the year.

The city has shut down local water play areas and put water-use restrictions on car washes and other businesses.

Jaclyn Sustaita works at a local family business with Munoz Drilling. She and her coworkers are worried about the drought and water.

“So what concerns me as a local resident is that what about our food or vegetables,” said Sustaita. “Everything that we live off of here that we’re known for citrus and or onions so I’m just concerned for the farmers around here too.”

Some residents are still unaware of the drought and others are impartial, as droughts in the Rio Grande Valley are cyclical.

Some Weslaco residents, like Chapó Sanchez, have faith that the city is handling it.

“I mean… it seems to be working for us every year. You know we have car washes running left and right every year you know what I mean so I’m not really worried about it,” said Sanchez.

The City of Weslaco continues to reach out in hopes of making residents aware of the need to conserve water.
