Wellsburg, W.Va. (WTRF) – Some local first responders were treated to dinner Tuesday evening as a way to say thanks.

Multiple departments across Brooke County came out to the Crooked Dock for some great food and a chance to unwind.

It’s no secret these individuals, many of which are volunteers, have been busy over the past few weeks. They cleaned up the aftermath of not one but two different floods, in addition to their normal duties.

Lester Bradley, the owner of the Crooked Dock, tell us that these men and women have to miss out on a lot to fulfill their duties, and he takes his hat off to them.

“They give countless hours, whether it’s 3:00am, or you know get up and go to a fire call, then they have to get up and go to work. I mean they do a ton. I mean it’s a thankless job. We just wanted to show our appreciation.”

“These gracious volunteers come out and did one heck of a job to get everything straightened out and the county cleaned back up. And we’re thankful to have them, thankful to live in a small community like this where we have this kind of help.”

Sheriff Richard Beatty – Brooke County Sheriff’s Office

The Crooked Dock is located at 30 12th Street in Wellsburg. You can also find them on Facebook.
