Wellington schools, healthcare centers on lockdown Monday after reported threat

Update: Monday, 2:29 p.m.

COLLINGSWORTH COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Collingsworth General Hospital said that its location and Collingsworth Family Medicine announced on social media that as of around 2 p.m. on Monday, have returned to normal operation.

Officials previously noted that the hospital and clinic were alerted by the sheriff’s office of a “possible threat,” and entered a lockdown status on Monday morning.

Update: Monday, 1:50 p.m.

COLLINGSWORTH COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Wellington Independent School District announced on social media that as of around 1:50 p.m. on Monday, its campuses were released from their “Secure Lockout” status.

Officials previously noted that the district entered the “Secure Lockout” status on Monday morning after a reported threat impacting “other entities in town.” As of 1:50 p.m., the status had ended and classes were set to resume normal schedules.

COLLINGSWORTH COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – According to updates from Wellington Independent School District and Collingsworth General Hospital, the school district and multiple healthcare centers in the community entered lockdown statuses on Monday morning after being made aware of a “possible threat” by local officials.

Wellington ISD announced on social media that the Collingsworth County Sheriff’s Office notified district officials of a threat involving “other entities in town.” While the threat was not made to or toward Wellington ISD, officials said that “out of an abundance of caution” its campuses entered a “Secure Lockout” status with no one allowed inside any campus location.

Collingsworth General Hospital said that its location and Collingsworth Family Medicine were also alerted by the sheriff’s office of a “possible threat,” and entered a lockdown status on Monday morning. Officials with the hospital said there would be “no entry or exit” until cleared by the sheriff’s office.

Although no details were immediately available regarding the nature of the threat, MyHighPlains.com has reached out to the Collingsworth County Sheriff’s Office and will update this article as more information is released and the situation develops.
