MILL CREEK, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Tygarts Valley High School teacher has been charged after Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies, with the help of K-9 Twix, found meth in a teacher’s truck when it was parked in the school’s parking lot.

It happened on Tuesday, April 9 according to a criminal complaint. Deputies received a tip that a teacher at Tygart Valley High School was selling drugs, so they brought K-9 Twix to conduct free air sniffs of vehicles in the parking lot. The K-9 alerted multiple times to a silver Toyota Tacoma that deputies said belonged to William Hamilton of Webster Springs.

Deputies said they pulled Hamilton from his classroom and read him his Miranda Rights before speaking with him. Hamilton initially denied having any controlled substances in his vehicle, but claimed he may have allowed someone to borrow it who used, and has had multiple passengers inside of it who have used, the complaint said.

Further into the interview, deputies said Hamilton admitted to using methamphetamine or other controlled substances habitually and had used within the past 48 hours. Hamilton then gave deputies permission to search his vehicle, the complaint said.

During the search, deputies found a piece of aluminum foil with burnt residue on it, as well as several small chunks of a crystal substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the complaint.

Hamilton was charged with possession of a controlled substance. As of Wednesday morning, he was not showing up on the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s website.
