Straphanger slashed on Manhattan subway station — with attacker still at large
A 36-year-old woman was slashed by a blade-wielding madman in a Lower East Side subway station early Sunday morning, the NYPD said. Following a 911 call, officers found the unidentified victim — who was cut at the Delancey Street/Essex Street station — with a laceration on her left leg, a department spokesperson said Sunday. Authorities brought her to Bellevue Hospital, where she is in stable condition. Suspected protester spotted scaling George Washington Bridge causing traffic delays
At least one man was spotted scaling the George Washington Bridge Saturday afternoon — causing traffic delays as the NYPD attempted to coral the climber. Police called for airbags and could be seen on the south side of the Manhattan tower as they tried to get the person. The incident unfolded just before noon and caused at least 90 minutes worth of delays due to the police activity, the Port Authority wrote on X. The NYPD would not confirm or deny whether the climber was a protester or an emotionally disturbed person. “There’s no flags, no banners, no statements in connection to any protests,” an NYPD spokesman said Saturday afternoon, noting authorities will have more information once the climber is in custody. About three and a half hours after the incident began, one person who had been scaling the span surrendered without incident, police said. A man was critically injured after being stabbed in Manhattan overnight, police said. The 34-year-old victim was stabbed in the stomach at the intersection of Broadway and Dyckman Street in Inwood, near the A subway station at around 4:40 a.m. Saturday, police said. Plainfield man sentenced to 23 years for fatal shooting
A 34-year-old Plainfield man has been sentenced to 23 years in state prison for the 2022 fatal shooting of a 50-year-old man. Haneef Welch was sentenced May 16 by Union County Superior Court Judge Candido Rodriguez on an aggravated manslaughter charge and ordered to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he becomes eligible for parole, Union County Prosecutor William A.
