WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — A Waterbury man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly having multiple illegal items in his car including a machete and drugs.

Police arrested Dante Khalil Walton, 27, of Waterbury, after a motor vehicle stop.

According to police, an officer was enforcing traffic on Wednesday near West Main Street when he saw a vehicle with an illegal and misused license plate.

The officer stopped the vehicle near the Route 66 intersection and saw a large machete on the driver’s side floorboard, police said.

The driver, Walton, refused to step outside the vehicle and police said he became evasive and confrontational.

The 27-year-old eventually exited the vehicle and officers attempted to arrest him, but he fought back. Police said he struck one officer and tried to grab onto both of them, before being arrested.

Walton was not injured, but one officer sustained injuries to his hand and wrist, police said.

Officers said they found two shotguns, numerous rounds of ammunition and drug paraphernalia in Walton’s vehicle.

The 27-year-old was charged with multiple offenses including, assault on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and illegal possession of a long gun.

Walton was held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson court on Thursday.
