1 seriously injured in crash involving Waterbury garbage truck

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — One person has been taken to a hospital with serious injuries after a crash in Waterbury early Thursday morning, according to police.

The crash between a gray SUV and a city garbage truck happened around 4:15 a.m. near Lakewood Road and North Main Street in Waterbury.

Police said one of the occupants of the SUV had to be extricated. They were taken to a local hospital for serious life-threatening injuries. The other people in the vehicle fled from the scene before officers arrived.

The driver of the city garbage truck was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
