    Washington Township man sentenced for machine gun possession

    WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — A Washington Township man will be spending the next several years behind bars.

    The DOJ’s Southern District of Ohio says Alex Jaques, 23, was sentenced Wednesday to serve six years in prison. Jaques’ sentence results from possessing a machine gun.

    According to the DOJ, Jaques used “multiple firearms” to fire at a laptop in a YouTube video. He also threatened to target Washington Middle School in Salinas, California. The FBI National Threat Operations Center received a tip on Nov. 15, 2022, relating to Jaques’ video.

    Potential explosive found in Washington Township; Suspect in custody

    On Nov 21, 2022, the FBI showed up to a home in the 600 block of W. Alex Bell Road in Washington Township. Federal officials and the Dayton Bomb Squad were called for device that was “believed to be explosive.” An FBI spokesperson previously told 2 NEWS a suspect, later discovered as Jaques, was arrested.

    During a search warrant on Jaques’ home, person and vehicle, eight firearms were confiscated by the FBI. An uzi-style weapon, hand grenades and other explosives equipment are named by the DOJ of items siezed.

    In March 2023, Jaques pleaded guilty to “a superseding bill of information.”
