Zach Bryan Surprises D.C. Crowd With Surprise Duet Of “Hey Driver” With The War And Treaty

What a surprise. At a stop on his The Quittin' Time tour at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. last night, Zach Bryan brought out two very special guests in Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, who make up the incredible duo The War And Treaty. Of course, they were featured on Zach's 2023 self-titled album on a song called "Hey Driver," which quickly became a fan-favorite (myself included, and not just for the “Carolina” lyric, though they definitely get extra points for that). The song has a pretty simple message, where they sing about going home to a place where “they still put sugar in their iced tea,” and no pun intended, but there’s truly no sweeter place than that. And if you aren’t overly familiar with The War and Treaty’s music yet, definitely go check them out because they’re two truly great vocalists and harmonize so beautifully together on all of their music. Zach first met them when they were all performing as part of Willie Nelson's the Outlaw Festival tour, and he later heard the husband and wife duo perform at the ACM Awards and knew he had to work with them. They exchanged numbers, and Tanya told Billboard that Michael and Zach had a quick bond since they were both in the military: "We were on a three-way text, but Michael and him had the bond of being in the military and serving, and so the dialog happened." Within two weeks of officially connecting, Zach had "Hey Driver" ready to go and sent it to the couple to see what they sounded like on it. The duo quickly put together a voice memo in less than 20 minutes, and the rest, as they say, is history. And possibly most special about them surprising the D.C. crowd last night is that it was a hometown show for Tanya, and of course, the crowd absolutely loved every single minute of their performance. You'd be hard-pressed to find two better vocalists in the genre, and it's amazing to hear them in an arena and totally blowing the roof off of it in the process.
