Alabama man killed after metal beam crashes through windshield along I-65

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A man was killed after a metal beam struck the windshield of the car he was driving Monday morning.

Jason Heath Fields, 51, of Gardendale, died while driving along I-65 near mile marker 281 in Warrior at 11:15 a.m. According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the metal beam that struck Fields is believed to have been road debris that fell from another vehicle, although the exact source of where the beam came from is unknown.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are investigating the crash.
