PREP BASKETBALL: Fairview pulls away to top Cold Springs 77-46, Lady Eagles remain unbeaten with 35-26 win
BREMEN, Ala. — The Cold Springs Eagles were back home in their newly-built gymnasium Friday night battling their county rivals from Fairview and the Aggies and Eagles split their varsity matchups. The Lady Eagles overcame a slow start and held off a late push from the Lady Aggies to collect a 35-26 win and improve to 10-0 this season. In the boys’ game, Fairview outscored Cold Springs 29-12 in the third quarter to pull away from the Eagles and return home with a 77-46 win.
Frye steps in, helps Cougars punch ticket to final
CLAY – Before Friday night’s Class 6A semifinal game, Clay-Chalkville High School coaches told backup quarterback Aaron Frye that anything could happen. Turns out, something did happen, and Frye was ready for his moment, as his long touchdown run helped propel the Cougars to a 38-13 win over Parker. The victory sends Clay-Chalkville to its fifth state championship game in program history.

TRINITY – Cherokee County High School senior defensive back Alex Johnson wanted redemption, and he finally got that opportunity. Early in the second quarter in the Warriors’ Class 4A third round playoff game at West Morgan, Johnson tipped a Braxton Peters pass that bounced into the hands of Rebel receiver Ti’airrius Mosley for a 60-yard touchdown. The score gave West Morgan some much-needed momentum after the Warriors had gone up by two scores on their first two drives of the game.
