Scappoose's Alice Davidson defends titles at track and field championships
For the second consecutive season, Scappoose High School senior Alice Davidson won the 4A 100 and 200 meters at the OSAA track and field state championships on Saturday, May 18, at Hayward Field in Eugene. Davidson clinched the state title in the 100 by 0.22 seconds, clocking in at 12.32, a personal best. She needed another personal best to win the 200, crossing in 24.97. "I'm just so grateful to have the experience and be able to be out here," Davidson said. "I had to meet a certain point to perform. It was just a lot of pressure going into it, but I think I did well and my coaches really helped me with that. Beyond her individual titles, Davidson helped the 4x400 relay team of Emily Garcia Ensaldo, Taylor Bourgoine and Peyton Lennox reached the top of the podium, running a time of 4:04.94.

Youth swimmers in Columbia County have a new look, as the county’s only year-round competitive swim club unveiled a new logo at Eisenschmidt Pool during the team’s annual Swim-a-thon fundraiser. UNDATED — It was a wild and exciting weekend for local high school athletes as they competed in district events and state tournament play. In Vancouver, a great season ended for the Port Angeles Roughriders baseball team as they lost a 7-4 lead and the game 8-7 to the #7 ranked WF West Bearcats. Unfortunately for the Roughriders, the Bearcats played exactly how the Roughriders needed them to play to pull off a minor upset, but the Roughriders made too many mistakes themselves.
Schoolmeester, Diani bring home hardware for Banks
Banks sophomore Sophie Schoolmeester earned herself two individual 3A titles on Friday, taking first-place in the 800 and 1500 meters at the 2024 OSAA Track and Field State Championships at Hayward Field. First, Schoolmeester ran 4 minutes, 46.17 seconds to take first in the 1500, besting the field by more than two seconds.
