WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A half dozen dogs found abandoned in Trumbull County Tuesday are now in the care of the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project, and those at animal rescues are continuing to deal with abandoned animals.

A dog now named Beatrice was found in a home on Palmyra Road in Warren.

Rescue founder Jason Cooke said Beatrice didn’t have any food or water, was extremely underweight, dehydrated, plus had a large infected mass on her side.

The dog is receiving care at a veterinarian’s office and may require multiple surgeries to remove the mass.

In Warren Township, someone walking along Tod Avenue also found a box of abandoned puppies.

Cooke said the five puppies were malnourished, dehydrated and covered in urine. One of the puppies isn’t doing well. The others are currently in foster homes.

“The level of depravity, just when I possibly think it can’t get any worse, continues to rise, and the frequency arises as well,” he said.

The shelter is currently housing 60 dogs with another 60 in foster care.

Cooke said the rescue is in nee d of fosters and adopters to give these animals their forever homes.
