Controlling our future in Rockport
The Town of Rockport Economic Development Committee was created by the Select Board in 2020 to advise the board on issues related to economic development. Over the years our committee has reviewed existing reports and solicited additional input from residents regarding the nature and pace of growth that is desirable for our town. And though there exists a range of opinions, there are several goals with very broad support:
RSU 40’s $38.7 million budget heads to voters June 11
Voters passed each of the 23 Articles set forth in the 2024-2025 budget at the RSU 40 budget adoption meeting May 14 at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro. More than 100 citizens from Friendship, Union, Waldoboro, Warren, and Washington attended the meeting, including about 25 voters who opposed each measure in turn.

No restrictions on lot size per dwelling in your neighborhood. Jumbo buildings built next to small neighborhood homes. Feel crowded? Has the historic charm been disturbed?. Yup. Developers may soon have greatly reduced limits on density as they build more housing in Rockland. We definitely need more housing. But will it be affordable housing or just housing? What happened to the idea of a bonus density tool that would reward a developer to include a portion of affordable housing in a new large building?
Alna selectmen rebuke resident’s remarks
A committee on Alna’s would-be mining ordinance drew about two hours’ discussion May 9 and an exchange over civility. The selectboard had just settled on most of the committee’s members and was mulling which selectman to have on it – Third Selectman Coreysha Stone or Second Selectman Steve Graham, and what that selectman’s role on the committee would be – when one of the other planned appointees, Jeff Spinney, called Stone stupid.
