Riverside Comes in Third, AHSTW in Fourth, and Audubon in Eighth in WIC Boy’s Track Championship

(Neola, IA) – At the Western Iowa Conference Boy’s Track and Field Championship, the Underwood Eagles took the top spot once again with a total of 134 team points. Riverside came in third with 101 points, AHSTW in fourth with 90 team points, and Audubon came in eighth with 54.

Diving into the depth of the meet, Audubon’s Ezekiel Konkler was able to take first in the boy’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.33 while finishing with a neck-and-neck finish with Riverside’s Dawson Henderson. The success for Konkler came with the kick at the last curve of the race at about the 150-meter mark and was able to utilize that kick to finish first.

Konkler was also a part of the winning 4×400-meter team who took first with a time of 3:34.52. This finish could not have been earned alone for Konkler who was receiving support from just about every individual at the edge of the track. Not only were the Audubon fans and Konkler’s teammates cheering him on, but so was IKM-Manning. Konkler’s sister, Emma Konkler, is the girl’s track and field coach for IKM-Manning and was cheering on her brother alongside the Wolves all the way to the finish.

Another top finish on the day was from AHSTW’s Luke Sternberg who finished first in the 400-meter dash. Not only did Sternberg break the school record last week in the 400-meter dash at Fremont-Mills, he was able to do it again to not only take first but be a conference champ with a time of 51.18.

This finish for Sternberg gives him a lot of confidence moving forward and what to train for when preparing for the state-qualifying meet next week at Treynor. Wednesday helped set the bar for what he should expect when it comes down to the meet at Treynor.

For Ezekiel, Wednesday’s competition was some of the best yet this season and only has prepared him for more action next week for the state-qualifying meet.

On the other side for Riverside, the Bulldogs featured a total of three first-place individual and team finishers in the meet. Both Dawson and Brody Henderson were able to finish first as Dawson earned first in the 1600-meter at 4:48.80 and Brody earned first in the 3200-meter at 10:36.31. The boy’s distance medley team were able to capture first with the team of Cole Jeppesen, Jaxon Gordon, Mason McCready, and Grady Jeppesen finishing first at 3:45.42.
