As Memorial Day weekend approaches, we’re in for a mixed bag of weather across the region. Monday, Memorial Day itself, is shaping up to be the best day for outdoor activities, with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to expect.

    Memorial Day (Monday)

    • Overall Conditions : Ideal for outdoor activities, with abundant sunshine.
    • Temperatures : Expect highs in the middle 80s across the region, with lower 80s in Yakima and Walla Walla.
    • Events : Perfect weather for Memorial Day parades and gatherings. Remember to honor the true meaning of the holiday.

    Today’s Forecast (Friday)

    • Morning : Temperatures started in the 40s and 50s, with Yakima being the outlier at a chilly 39 degrees. Hanford reported 48 degrees, Kennewick 49 degrees, and the Tri-Cities at 53 degrees.
    • Daytime : Increasing clouds will move in from the West, especially affecting areas like Yakima and Toppenish. Despite the cloud cover, it will remain pleasant with mild temperatures.
    • Highs : Middle 70s for most areas, 76 degrees in the Tri-Cities, and just below 70 in Walla Walla and Pendleton.

    Saturday’s Forecast

    • Conditions : Cooler and breezy due to an upper-level disturbance moving in from Canada.
    • Temperatures : Highs will be in the 60s for many areas, making it the coolest day of the weekend.
    • Precipitation : Scattered showers are expected, especially along the foothills of the Blue Mountains. A stray shower may also hit Yakima and Walla Walla, but most places should stay dry.

    Sunday’s Forecast

    • Conditions : Improving weather as high pressure begins to build.
    • Temperatures : Warming up with highs climbing back into the 60s and lower 70s.
    • Precipitation : Coastal showers in Washington and Oregon will decrease, with drier conditions expected inland.

    Regional Highlights

    • Seattle : Expect showers today and tomorrow, with temperatures in the 50s. By Sunday, showers will taper off and temperatures will rise into the 60s. Memorial Day will be dry with highs around 70.
    • Portland : Similar to Seattle, showers will persist through Saturday, but expect drier weather and temperatures in the 70s by Monday.
    • Spokane : Dry with lots of clouds today, scattered showers tomorrow, improving by Sunday and Monday.

    Travel Advisory

If you’re traveling west to Seattle or Portland today or tomorrow, prepare for showers and cooler temperatures. Conditions will improve by Sunday, making it a better travel day with temperatures near 70.

    Boating Conditions

Not great for boating on Saturday due to breezy conditions. Sunday and Monday will be much better with lighter winds and plenty of sunshine, especially in the Tri-Cities where highs will reach the middle 80s.

Overall, while Saturday might bring some unsettled weather and cooler temperatures, the latter part of the weekend and Memorial Day look very promising for outdoor activities, travel, and celebrations. Enjoy the holiday and stay safe!
